In a couple of hours it will be New Years 2012 in Vancouver. It is already New Years in most part of the world. Last year I spent New Years 2011 in Hong Kong with my little brothers. 2010 was a soul searching year for me and I really needed a break from Vancouver. This lead me to the other side of the world to ponder, and open myself up to new cultures and surroundings.

I came back from my Hong Kong trip feeling a bit refreshed and began my 2011 journey. 2011 was definitely a year filled with triumph and turbulences. Also a year filled with many, many surprises!

~ My two …now three of my best girlfriends got engaged to their special someones and there all getting married in 2012!

~ My best guy friend Sam also got engaged and is getting married in 2012 with his girlfriend!

~ I moved departments in my current company, and in the beginning it was definitely tough being the newbie and working with new colleagues. But taking some words of wisdom from my mom. The beginnings are always hard but if you tough it out… the end results will be very rewarding.

~ The biggest surprise of them all… I met someone…(well I actually known this person for 5-6 years )  I ran in to him  at a Thai restaurant in Vancouver, and we exchange numbers again……

and this lead to date #1, and then 2, and 3…….and as my girlfriend Evy would say *wah-la* Mel you are in a relationship!

I was asked last week by a friend of mine. Mel, what was the highlight of 2011 for you? The highlight of 2011 for me..besides hearing the great news of my friend’s engagements would definitely be me meeting that special boy.

Relationships have always been an area in my life that I struggle with. Maybe because I choose the wrong men? Or because of my high expectations, or simply my own insecurities. I can finally say after many, many years of dating that I have met someone that can accept me for all my imperfections. Someone that makes me a better person with his truthful honesty. I still struggle with my own personal insecurities and is continually learning to be a better girlfriend. Such as learning to *bite my tongue sometimes*         

Although in the moment our relationship is in long-distance status. I would be lying if I say it isn’t hard at times. Especially during special days like today (NYE). But relationships are never easy to begin with and I have faith that we can work though this minor obstacle together.

*Some more words of wisdom from my mom. In the end, everything will work itself out

To summarize, 2011 has definitely been a year filled with many, many surprises. I am very grateful for the blessings that I have been given the past year, and in the New Year I will continue with my promise to stay positive, and to take care of my personal health…physically and emotionally

NYX: a brand that is carry @ most Save-on-Food locations. I like their Diamond sparkle lipsticks, great coverage and I love the frosty sheen to it. I also like their inexpensive lip pencils, good coverage and long lasting.

Loreal: Available @ most drug stores. I have been using their Very Black Liquid Eyeliner for years!!! Its easy to apply and stays on for hours. There Voluminous mascara is awesome, and inexpensive …great to have in your purse for touch ups.

Annabelle: Also available @ your local drug store, I like their smudge liner. It has the foam sponge at the end which helps to create that smokey smudge look effect.

When your at a crossroad and feeling a little lost… just stop and close your eyes then try to erase all negative thoughts in your  mind. Trust me…just FREE YOUR MIND, and listen to the whispers that the universe is sending you. The answers your seeking will come…

So Yes, Attaining happiness can really be that simple…if we just keep it simple and remember WHAT IS…IS

You know that crazy feeling you get when your with that special boy or girl you like. It might not be the first, or second or even third date…you could be dating for weeks, months, or even years but the feelings are still there. You still want to put on that pretty dress or wear that fancy suit and impress your partner.

I was talking with my girlfriend last week and she has been married with her husband for over 2 years and they recently had a baby girl together. (FYI: they have been dating for over 5 years before they were married)  And I thought it was the sweetest thing when she told me that she still gets *butterflies* when she is with her husband. 

I think my last blog portrayed the *butterflies feelings* as being negative and dangerous ……..chasing the high to only end up with nothing in the end. Butterflies = fears and insecurity in a relationship. But thinking deeper and talking with my girlfriend, its good to have butterflies …if there the good ones…the comfy kind

You know that comfy feeling you get when your with someone. You could be in your sweats with no make up on and you still feel sexy. Your fun date night is watching re-runs or playing boardgames. You could sit there and cuddle on the sofa for hours and talk about randomness …Those are the good butterflies feelings…the comfy kind.

Regardless if your eating instant noodles or a fancy steak dinner, sneakers or pradas, glam up to the max or wearing nothing but chapstick…the feelings are still the same

I don’t even know what to say…..call it abnormal…call it silly…but is it still normal to get butterflies over the same boy………….after many many years………

Are these butterflies feelings actually a warning sign in disguise…when your with someone that you care about and they care about you…shouldn’t you feel calm and not restless?!

Restlessness = uncertainty within the relationship.

When I was younger………..I feen and live off that high..the chase..the games..the imitation love..and after awhile you realize the only one your playing is yourself. Real relationships are not based on how well you play the game. Its based on two people meeting halfway…compromising, communicating and genuwinely caring about each other. Chasing butterflies can be fun but also deadly if you don’t know when to stop chasing…..

When your constantly chasing for that next high..you might end up passing by on some great opportunities because your too caught up in the chase, the games, the superficiality. Your quest for imitation love is actually depriving you from real love. Just remember to be yourself, as hard as it is at times. No need to put on a show, if they love you they will love you for who you are. This is something I still struggle with…being myself…because in my mind I think I need to always impress the boy I am with but in reality if this boy really likes you…………they will still like you with no frills or gimmicks….just the way you are

Finally I realized I do not need to be charmed or humored by the boy I like. I just want to be treated with respect and care. I am not perfect, and I have my flaws…tell me as it is…

I just finished chatting with my best friend Alec and we came to the conclusion …men or women…we do not want to ever be someones casual convenience. Whatever happen to real courtship? Where a boy actually thoughtfully plans out a date with a girl their interested in with no real ulterior motives.

I took a break from dating the past year because I felt like I always ended up in the same place…a place where I am left feeling confused and hurt. I am not blaming anyone or myself…sometimes relationships work, and sometime they don’t. It is what it is…

But I am finally ready and wanting to date again…but this time in a different limelight…no more charms, no more surface level love, I am looking for that real ginuwine love. Where you can say anything to that person. They accept you for who you are. Make you feel like a better person.

Right now all I can do is have a little faith…because somewhere out there is a boy that will love me the way I deserve to be…………………

This is one of my more up close and personal blogs but hey…if I am looking for some real love…then I need to be more real with myself and my followers.

To further add to my last blog…

I have been doing a lot of self-reflection lately and I have come to the startling conclusion that before I can be a recipient of real love…

I need to start loving myself more. There are takers out there that know your *soft spot* and can emotionally & mentally drain you. This is true with relationships, friendships and work relationships. Instead of doubting your self-worth…why not give yourself a break?

Because you deserve it…

Is it because were not mature enough? Is it because we want to stay forever young and continue to act in childish ways.  I am sure we all make promises and resolutions to ourselves that we cannot help but easily break …

I will quit smoking, I will stop procrastinating, stop lying, stop cheating, stop acting self-destructively but how comes it is so easy to fall back in to our comfort zone of childish behaviours.

Behaviours that we developed during our teenage years to help us get through a tough confusing period of life. Automatic defense mechanism that we learned as children to protect ourselves…such as telling white lies…Do you remember when you told your first lie? Do you remember when you told a lie that hurt not only yourself but also someone that you cared about?

I had a conversation with a dear friend of mine this weekend, a friend that has always been dear to my heart but we had our up and downs because sometimes I do not condone all his childish behaviours. I asked him one question…do you ever think you will stop behaving this way? His response…Mel I have always been this way and I will  never be that boy you want me to be. I just smiled and said nothing. Because some words do not need to be spoken. Because I know one day…when I ask him the same question I will get a different response.

We all grew up on the same playground, but from different life circumstances, or situations were faced with…we head in different paths…there is no right or wrong path…it just depends on what are values are and how much we love ourselves…and the ones that love us. I believe were all inherently good, but for whatever life alternating reasons we become lost and  act self-destructively.

When in the end…the only ones were hurting is ourselves.

Giorgio Armani: Luminous Silk Powder

My best friend Evelyn has been raving about it for a looooooooooooong time. Me, being an addict of Laura Mercier (which I am still a big fan of)  I like to change my look up sometimes…everyone needs a little change sometimes… right?

What is the difference between these two powders?

Laura Mercier is a slightly heavier coverage, can wear it wet or dry, but I notice when I wear it for a long period it starts to feel a little heavy. It does give great flawless coverage…great for pictures!! I like Giorgio Armani for everyday wear…I wore it to work today…lasted me 8+hours and it felt very light on my face. Not too heavy or oily and great for reducing shine. A lighter coverage but still gives you the radiant complexion your wanting.

Verdict: I love both powders…Giorgio for day time and Laura Mercier for night time…or whatever I feel like at the moment…its make up…just have a little fun and go with it
